I don't regard them as traditional, but they are free, weigh nothing and add a little ventilation. In all those years and miles, I don't recall ever even twisting a finger, let along breaking one; on the other hand, I distinctly remember leaning, falling or being thrown against small, hard objects that left a variety of bruises and contusions.<br /><br />If you think there are better and safer options available, that are as foolproof, you are entitled to your opinion.
